What is Doctor Who?
Doctor Who is a science fiction television show that has been produced on and off by BBC since 1963. The show follows an extraterrestrial (species: Time Lord, planet: Gallifrey) character named "The Doctor". The Doctor, usually accompanied by a companion (generally a human companion), explores time and space in his vessel the TARDIS (Time And Relitive Dimension In Space) which looks like an old fashioned blue English police box. The Doctor, while claiming to never interfere with the universe, ends up finding trouble wherever they go. Many times, the Doctor and companion will end up saving millions of lives. The Doctor, as a Time Lord, has the ability to "regenerate", to take on a new appearance and be able to live the length of another human life with that face. The series began with a television series which ran from 1963 to 1989, spanning seven regenerations of Doctors. The series than stopped until an attempt to bring the series back through a television movie released in 1996 called "Doctor Who", featuring an all new Doctor. From there the show was relaunched in 2005 and is still being produced, and since 2005 has introduced six new doctors. Most recently a landmark in the show was made when they introduced the first female incarnation of the Doctor in their 2017 Christmas episode.
